JUNAGADH

Steeped in history, culture, spirituality and the religion, Junagadh is the soul of the Saurashtra .In just 55 km the terrain descend from Mt. Girnar, Gujarat highest point at the 1000m to the Veeraval coast .In the Mid -18th c. when Mughal power weakened, an Afghan Soldier of fortune named Sher Khan Babi established Junagadh state, which his successors ruled until India’s independence.

SOMNATH (PRABHAS PATAN)

This famous temple by the sea is another major centre for tourists and pilgrims. It is one of the India’s twelve jyotirlingas(spontaneously formed Shivalingas). In 1026 Somnath‘s prosperity drew Mahmud of Ghazni on the last of his 17th expeditions to India. He ransacked the town, plundered and destroyed the temple and carried away camel loads of gold and precious stones. However, this was just one of the half a dozen times that the temple was destroyed through its history, dating from the pre-Christian era.

It is located in the heart of GIRNational Park, in Junagadh District of Gujarat. There are medicinal hot water springs and are a major attraction as it can get rid of skin diseases.
