THE GANGOTRI NATIONAL PARK UTTARKASHI
The Gangotri national park (GNGP) and historic Gartang Gali skywalk will be reopened for tourists on the 1st of April 2022 after a four-month winter break. GNP officials are all geared up to welcome visitors to the park which is are renowned for its rich flora fauna trekking and mountains erring trails.
Formed in 1989 GNP is reported to be the third-largest national park in the country in the covers a total area of 2,390 sq km and is situated next to the indo-china border. Every year thousands-both pilgrims and adventures lovers - visit the park to witness its rare flora 150 years old. Gartang Gali was restored and reopened to the public in August last year and fauna along with the snow-capped Himalayan peaks and the Gomukh which is the snout of the Gangotri glacier from where river Ganga originates. Another major attraction of the park is the 136- meter - long historic Gartang Gali skywalk which was constructed as a tread route between India and Tibet this 150 year- old wooden bridge to the public in August last year. RN Pandey, deputy director of Gangotri national park, said" we are repairing the area and removing snow from the 18-km long trail from Gangotri to Gomukh However guest house of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam and other agencies are still closed. Hence visitors will not find accommodation and food inside the park, in view of this, we will only give permission to those tourists who are coming through registered trekking agencies. Besides. we have installed" CCTVs and deputed guards"
