Tragedies and Incidents in Uttarakhand
1. Trekkers’ Tragedy in Uttarkashi
Nine trekkers from Bengaluru lost their lives during an expedition to Sahastra Tal in Uttarkashi. The team, consisting of 22 members from The Karnataka Mountaineering Association, encountered bad weather conditions. The experienced trekkers battled snow and blizzards, but unfortunately, five of them succumbed to the harsh elements. The deceased were identified as follows:

The bodies of four trekkers—Padmanabha, Prasad, Rangappa, and Hegde—were recovered on June 6, 2024. The other members of the team were successfully rescued.
2. Tempo Traveller Accident near Alakananda River
In Rudraprayag district, a tempo traveller carrying 23 passengers plunged into a gorge near the Alakananda River. The accident left 18 people injured. Local authorities and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) promptly initiated rescue operations, transporting the injured to the nearest medical center.
3. Lost Trekkers in Uttarkashi
Another group of trekkers faced a life-threatening situation in Uttarkashi. A 22-member team from Karnataka lost their way during the Sehastrataal trek due to extreme weather conditions. The trekkers battled the elements, and tragically, five of them lost their lives. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and forest department launched search and rescue operations to locate the missing trekkers.
4. Bus Accident in Pauri Garhwal District
A devastating bus accident occurred in Pauri Garhwal district, claiming at least 25 lives. The bus veered off the road and fell into a ravine, resulting in fatalities and injuries. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation, but the tragedy has left the community in shock and mourning.
