Laxman Jhula, the iconic 92 - year - old suspension bridge in Rishikesh. was closed down completely after a holding wire broke on Sunday morning. Owing to its precarious state, the bridge was closed to all traffic two years ago. it was open to only pedestrians, until Sunday. Executive engineer of PWD Arif khan told, " The bridge is already closed for traffic and only pedestrians, in a limited number, were allowed to pass. Now, People have asked to avoid the bridge altogether. Construction of a new bridge is underway, it should be completed within one and a half years. " MS Nawaz
