Three bodies were recovered after a search operation by local police and the SDRF team. Of the four teenagers, all residents of Gogina, three of them studied in Haldwani. They had come home on vacation.
The father of one of the dead boys is posted at SOG Haldwani, while the father of another is in the Army in Kota, Rajasthan. As per the police, the three dead have been identified as Abhishek Singh (17), Ajay Singh (16), and Suresh Singh alias Pankaj (13). Vikram Singh (14) is still "missing".
The development comes a month after a class XI student drowned in a river near Kasad Devi. Prior to this, a teenager from Haldwani died after being swept away in Ramganga in Almora. According to state police, more than 20 teenagers have drowned in the Kumaon region in the last four years.
Despite several warning signs, several people-even those who aren't swimmers -are wading into deep waters, said DIG Kumaon Nileesh  Anand Bhare. He added that police are continuously conducting awareness drives at tourist spots to warn people of the dangers of going deep inside the river.
Last month, two students from the Droan College of Pharmacy in Dineshpur town of Udham Singh Nagar drowned while taking a bath in Corbett waterfall in Ramnagar (Nainital). In this particular case, even the teachers of the college were found ignoring safety signs.
