How to Reach Dharamshala
Dharamshala is well-connected to Delhi and other parts of North India via a network of state operated buses as well as private tour operators. Dharamshala is almost 490 kilometres from Delhi. Most buses stop at the main bus terminal in Lower Dharamshala, but there are also some public Haryana Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses that go all the way to the main square of McLeod Ganj. An overnight journey from Delhi takes about 13 hours to reach to Dharamshala.
By Air:
Gaggal Airport, about 15 km away from the city centre, is the main domestic airport serving Dharamshala. Airlines such as Jagson Airlines, Air India Regional and SpiceJet offer regular flight services from places like Delhi and Chandigarh. Travellers can easily get taxis and cabs from outside the airport. They can also take a bus to reach their destination.
By Road:
Dharamshala is well connected by buses to Pathankot, (about 88 Km) which has road connections to other cities in North India. From Delhi (490 km) and Shimla (240 km), a number of Volvo, luxury and sleeper buses are available at regular intervals for Dharamshala. You can also get direct buses from Chandigarh (250 km away), Jalandhar (190 km away) and Amritsar(200 km away).
By Train:
The nearest railway station to Dharamshala is in Pathankot, which is well connected to all parts of the country. The Kangra Valley Railway connects Pathankot to Kangra and Joginder Nagar. This is a regular service, which will give you an extremely slow but scenic experience. From outside the railway station, travellers can hire taxis or cabs to reach anywhere in Dharamshala.
