Work on tiger rescue center in PTR to begin today

Pilibhit: The long-awaited project of the tiger rescue center in Pilibhit tiger reserve (PTR) is likely to start today by CNDS (construction and design service) of the irrigation department under the technical guidelines of the Central Zoo Authority. As per the divisional forest officer of PTR, Naveen Khandelwal, a team of CNDS is scheduled to arrive at Pilibhit on Tuesday for the mapping and designing of the rescue center.
Notably, 4 rescue centers including one each at Bahilpurwa in the Chitrakoot forest division, Hastinapur in Meerut forest division, Gopalpur in Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, and Madhavaliya in Maharajganj had been proposed in the year 2019 and the state wildlife board had extended its approval to them in January last year.
The work on the project could not be initiated as the requisite funds could not be allotted from the end of CAMPA (compensatory afforestation fund management and planning authority). Now after the chief minister of UP, Yogi Aditya Nath, laid the foundation stone of all four rescue centers on Friday with the direction to complete the project within two years, the head of the 'eco-development department', Neeraj Kumar, gave a green signal to PTR authorities on Monday.
Till now, we were completely dependent on Lucknow and Kanpur zoos for the shifting of rescued injured big cats", said chief conservator of forest, Lalit Verma.
