Dehradun: Uttarakhand has recorded a 10% rain surplus in the first 10 days of May, the last month of the three-month-long pre-monsoon season, according to the regional meteorological center. This comes after two months- March and April of rain deficit. While the rain deficit was 96% in March, it was 78% in April.
In May, however, a few good rain spells helped the state record a surplus. Uttarakhand has received 16.3 mm of rainfall against the normal of 14.8 mm in May so far. Bageshwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts in the Kumon region recorded a maximum rain surplus of 121% and 113%, revealing the Met data. On the other hand, Haridwar withness a 100% rain deficit. "In the past 24 hours, light-to-moderate rainfall occurred at many places, and thunderstorms were witnessed at a few places," Bikram Singh, director of the regional meteorological center, said.
