Registration must for Char Dham pilgrims

Dehradun: Taking into consideration the large turnout of devotees for the Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government has now made registration mandatory for pilgrims visiting the four revered shrines. Pilgrims can register on the website of the state tourism department or at the police station en route to the dhams. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has also announced that the "daily limit of each Dham will be raised by 1,000". This means that now, 42,000 pilgrims- 16,000 at Badrinath, 13,000 at Kedarnath, 8,000 at Gangotri, and 5,000 at Yamunotri-will be allowed per day. Earlier, there was a provision for 38,000 pilgrims per day.
In wake of a large number of pilgrims at Badrinath and Kedarnath, the Badrinath Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) on Wednesday requested people to ensure their night stay facility before planning or starting their journey. Kedarnath has a night stay facility for 8,000 pilgrims but each day over 20,000 are turning up. Besides lodging, making food arrangements is turning out to be a major challenge, authorities said.
Meanwhile, the timings of Kedarnath 'darshan' have been increased by two hours-one hours raised for general 'darshan' and an hour for special prayers.
"We have online and offline provisions for registration. I want to urge all the pilgrims to register themselves and carry a copy of it. Devotees coming without registration may face certain difficulties and I don't want that to happen. So, my humble request is for all to register themselves before starting their pilgrimage," Dhami said. Following the CM's confirmation, the culture and pilgrimage management department released an amended government order. The provision shall remain applicable for the yatra's first 45 days.
