Record 19.4 L pilgrims visit Char Dham in little over a month

Dehradun: A record 19.43 lakh pilgrims undertook Char Dham Yatra in a little over a month of the commencement of pilgrimage this year, according to the Badri-Kedar temple committee. As of June 12, the total number of pilgrims who have reached Uttarakhand for the Char Dham Yatra was 19,43,321, as per the temple committee. This year, the Char Dham Yatra began on May 3 with the opening of portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines, followed by the doors of Kedarnath and Badrinath, which opened on May 6 and May 8, respectively. A maximum of 6,57,547 visited Badrinath, followed by 6,33,548 in Kedarnath. Gangotri shrine has received 3,57,091 pilgrims since the start of the yatra, while 2,67,038 devotees have visited Yamunotri shrine, according to Harish Gaur, spokesperson of the Badri-Kedar temple committee.
Meanwhile, 77,759 devotees visited Hemkund Sahib Yatra, which started on May 22.
The state government, anticipating a record footfall, had fixed a daily limit on the number of pilgrims for each shrine this year. Later, under the direction of the chief minister, the government had decided to increase the number of pilgrims at Char Dham by a thousand.
With this, 16,000 devotees can visit Badrinath, and 13,000 can have 'darshan' of the deity at Kedarnath Dham in a day. Now, as many as 8,000 and 5,000 pilgrims can visit Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham, in a day, respectively.
