Rain, and thunderstorms likely in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: Almost a four-day long spell of rainfall and thunderstorm is likely to begin in the hills of Uttarakhand from Saturday, according to the regional meteorological center, which on Friday issued an alert and advisory for people.
"Thunderstorms accompanied with hail/lightning/intense showers are likely to occur at isolated places in the hills of Uttarakhand between May 21 and 24. A few places would witness hail and squall with gusty winds during the period," the Met forecast stated. Two western disturbances in succession are likely to affect the weather of Uttarakhand from May 21 to 24, resulting in light to moderate rain/thunderstorms with peak activity on May 23, according to Bikram Singh, director of the regional meteorological center.
The Met Office also issued a 'yellow' warning of moderate rainfall for May 21 and 22 and an 'orange' alert for May 23 and 24, wherein heavy rainfall is predicted at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Tehri, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Bageshwar districts.
"Gusty winds and hailstorms could cause minor-to- medium damage to kaccha houses and loose structures. People are advised to remain cautious and take shelter at safe places during thunderstorms and hailstorm activity," said Bikram Singh.
