New Flights Launched to Kashi and Gorakhpur

LUCKNOW/GORAKHPUR: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inaugurated flights between his hometown Gorakhpur and prime minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary seat Varanasi via video-conferencing under the ambitious UDAN scheme.

Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also joined the event virtually from Gwalior.

Speaking on the occasion, Yogi said that the state had nine functional airports connecting 75 destinations across the country. "Four years ago, just four airports in the state were connected to mere 25 destinations. Now flights for 75 destinations across the country are available from the state," Yogi said.
Thanking Scindia for the improved air connectivity, he said, "It is for the first time that connectivity between two important cities -- the land of Baba Gorakhnath with the land of Baba Vishwanath -- has been created via air route."
Emphasizing the importance of better air connectivity, the CM said that the increase in air connectivity would not only ease vehicular congestion, and boost tourism but would also open up new employment opportunities for the youth in the state.
The air passengers of Uttar Pradesh will now get the facility of direct flight service from five new air routes including Gorakhpur-Varanasi, Gorakhpur-Kanpur, Varanasi-Patna, Kushinagar-Kolkata, and Varanasi-Jaipur. Yogi said that the UP had immense potential and there are limitless possibilities for the region to turn into a leading place.
Congratulating Yogi for taking charge of UP once again, Scindia said that UP showed the way to the politics of the country. "The country is determined to follow UP and its decision to elect a government which works for the welfare of common man and uplift of every section of the society," he said. Scindia said that under the summer schedule, the number of cities connected with Varanasi will increase from 11 to 15, while in Gorakhpur the number will increase from 6 cities to 9 cities.
He said that eight airports including five international airports would be functional in UP in the coming time. Scindia said that there will also be an extension of the Gorakhpur airport's terminal building soon.
