Leopard beaten to death by villagers after it attacks and injures 13 locals in Dudhwa

A leopard was brutally beaten to death with stones and sticks by a group of people after it injured almost 13 people in the village near the Sujoli range of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in Bahraich district on Wednesday. Some of the forest departments filed an FIR against around 100 villagers under Wildlife Protection Act 1972. A team of forest officials arrived at the village with elephants and were combing the area when some of the angry villagers surrounded the big cat, rained stones and sticks at it, and later mutilated the carcass with sharp objects.
This incident was reported from Kathotiya village where a group of people was working in the field when a leopard suddenly attacked them. After the locals demanded to tranquilize the big cat and the officials told the villagers that tranquilization needs permission from senior officials. In the meantime, a few villagers chased the leopard inside the cane field and killed it.
Akasdeep Wadhawn, DFO Katarniaghat, told, " It was a female leopard, aged nearly two and a half years, which was killed by the villagers. The angry villagers also pelted stones registered an FIR against a dozen named and various unidentified villagers. Appropriate action will be taken against all the accused."
