Govt issue health advisory for Chardham Yatra

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government on Tuesday issued a health advisory for the Char Dham Yatra, requesting elderly pilgrims and those under the vulnerable category to get a health check-up done before visiting the shrines.
The advisory points out that the pilgrimage entails harsh weather conditions, low humidity, increased ultraviolet radiation, and reduced air and oxygen pressure. Also, an individual requires physical endurance to trek to the temples. It adds that those suffering from any form of acute mountain sickness-including loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, and dizziness- should descend from that elevation. Pilgrims have also been advised to avoid strenuous exercise at high altitudes, maintain a nutritive diet and consume at least 2 liters of fluid daily.
In the first eight days of the Char Dham yatra, 22 pilgrim deaths, primarily due to heart-related issues, have been reported.
Taking cognizance, Radhika Jha, the state health secretary, chaired a meeting with the authorities of all Char Dham districts-Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, and Chamoli-on Tuesday.    11-05-2022
