CM seeks PM nod to link ancient shrines in Kumaon

Dehradun: During a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Thursday, Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami requested the Centre to extend the GST compenstion period. He also sought approval for 'Manas Khand Mala Mission', which aims to connect the ancient temples in Kumaon, and he made a request to establish a branch of the National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research in the state. "This (institute) will give a boost to pharmaceutical research. The desired land will be made available by the state," he said.
Other key requests made by CM Dhami included permission for smooth operation of air services from Pithoragarh airstrip and the Centre's cooperation in transferring the 25% equity shareholding of THDC India Ltd to the state. "THDC India Ltd id a joint venture with 75% stake of the Union and 25% of UP government. After Uttarakhand was create, the state was to be transferred but it is yet to materialise in the last 22 years," the CM said. About 70% of the projects of THDC India Ltd are located in Uttarakhand. The state also has to face the challenges related to rehabilitatiori, law and order and other social and environment issues arising out of the above projects. The Uttarakhand government had knocked the doors of the Supreme Court in 2012 and the matter is still under consideration. He requested PM Modi's help in transferring the 25% equity shareholding of THDC India Ltd from UP to Uttarakhand.
Also, in order to provide revenue security to states after the implementation of GST, arrangements were made to compensate the GST for a period of five years (till June 30, 2022). However, due to structural changes, low consumption base, inadequate service base in the state and other reasons, the expected growth in the state's revenue could not be recorded after the implementation of GST. So, in view of the limited financial resources of the state, the CM requested to extend the period of GST compenstion beyond June 2022.
Dhami further said that the state was emerging as a pharmaceutical hub. Manufacturing units here account for about 20% of the total consumption of medicines in India. More than 300 pharma units are established in the three major industrial complexes in Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. These units are providing jobs to over a lakh people.
He also informed PM Modi that a tender process has been completed for operating fixed-wing (aircraft) air serice from the airstrip in Pithoragarh. Dhami requested the PM to direct the authorities for speedy and smooth operation of air services from the airstrip.
