Chardham Route has 60 Lanslide Prone Zones

Uttarkashi: Ahead of the start of Char Dham Yatra on 3rd May 2022, the Uttarkashi district administration has identified 60 landslide-prone zones along the routes of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines. Among these, 13 zones have been categorized as "highly sensitive."
In the past few years, landslides have stranded tourists and pilgrims on highways for several hours, negatively impacting the tourism business in the Uttarakhand. This year, too, rain spells and the ongoing construction work of the all-weather Char Dham Road may lead to the occurrence of landslides, and therefore, "men and machinery" have been deployed to clear the routes in such cases, authorities said. Dinesh Rawat, social activist, Yamunotri, told, " The landslide-prone zones identified on the Yamunotri highway include Kisala-Khaneda, Ojari-Dabarkot, Silai Band, Paaligaad, Orcha Band and Dobata, among others. Most of these spots have become vulnerable due to uncontrolled road construction works." He added, "The Kisala-Khaneda landslide zone on the Yamunotri highway is the most dangerous of them all. It is good that the administration has deployed men and machines as a precautionary measure but the ongoing road cutting work may pose problems during the monsoon season."
Meanwhile, Abhishek Ruhela, DM Uttarkashi said, "All efforts are being taken to ensure a smooth Char Dham Yatra experience for the pilgrims. The routes would be  cleared at the earliest in case of a landslide."
