Bus with Char Dham pilgrims from Maharashtra overturns, six hurt

Dehradun: At least six people, including three women, were injured after a bus carrying 21 Char Dham pilgrims from Maharashtra overturned near Devprayag town of Pauri Garhwal district, about 110 km from Dehradun, on Sunday.
According to Devprayag police, the pilgrims were part of a large group comprising around 100 people. They were traveling in a convoy of five buses from Delhi for the yatra.
Devprayag SHO Devraj Sharma said, "The incident occurred at around 5 pm. The pilgrims were returning from Badrinath towards Rishikesh in five buses. On the way, the bus with 21 pilgrims overturned near a bend in which six of them were injured."
"None of the pilgrims sustained major injuries but were kept under observation for the night. The remaining pilgrims were transported to Rishikesh in other buses," he added. The SHO further said that "prima facie it seems that the driver tried to turn at the sharp bend in high speed due to which he lost control over the heavy vehicle and it overturned."
Earlier on Saturday, 10 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh were injured after the driver of their bus rammed into a hill following a "brake failure".
