Alternative Routes will be made for Char Dham in case of calamity

Dehradun: Tourism minister Satpal Maharaj in a review meeting over Char Dham Yatra Preparations on Saturday, directed authorities to keep alternate routes ready in case of any natural calamity or road blockade during the Yatra to the four Himalayan shrines of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, which begins on 3rd May 2022.
The Minister said that a plan for backup routes should be there so that devotees can continue with their pilgrimage without any problems.
"Proper signage boards need to be set up to direct pilgrims towards alternate routes and avoid delays," Maharaj said. The minister also directed officials to ensure that "all protocols are followed and the per-day tourist footfall capacity of each shrine (Dham) isn't breached." Further, he asked authorities to arrange for masks and sanitizers for the pilgrims amid concerns of a fresh surge in Covid cases.
Besides, the district magistrates have been directed to stockpile food reserves for people, especially children and senior citizens in case of any traffic holdover. Maharaj, who is also the Public Works Department (PWD) minister, said that all road repair work should be completed before the yatra begins.
