Alaknanda stone crusher in Srinagar told to stop

The Uttarakhand high court on Friday heard a petition against the operation of the Alaknanda stone crusher in Pauri Garhwal's Srinagar town. After hearing the matter, the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Justice RC Khulbe issued a ban on the operation of the Alaknanda stone crusher until further orders. The order came after the court was told that the stone crusher was operating without securing permission from the state pollution control board. The case will next be heard on June 29. The case is based on a PIL filed by Srinagar-resident Narendra Singh Sendhwal. The petitioner alleges that the stone crusher threatens the existence of Gaura Devi and Raj Rajeshwari temples. The PIL further states that the stone crusher also pollutes traditional drinking water sources.
