2 held for shooting spotted deer in Pilibhit Tiger Reserve

Pilibhit: Two persons were arrested for allegedly gunning down a  spotted deer at Haripur forest range in Pilibhit tiger reserve (PTR) on Sunday while one managed to flee the scene.
A field forest team comprising the forest inspector, Rahul Kumar Nain, the forest guard, Harshit Kumar, and other cops conducted a raid on Sunday morning in the area following a tip-off and recovered the carcass of the deer from the custody of the accused. Those arrested were identified as Kamlesh Kumar, a resident of village Chatipur and Sant Ram of village Haripur. Both the villages fall under the jurisdiction of Seramau North police station.
The autopsy report revealed that the death of the deer was caused by a bullet shot, said PTR's veterinary officer, Dr. Daksh Gangwar.
Meanwhile, the forest department officials also recovered a country-made pistol and a sharp-edged slaughtering weapon from the accused.
Later, they were sent to jail after a departmental case was registered against them under sections 9, 51 of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, said police.
The spotted deer is protected under schedule III of the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List of Threatened Species.
